About the Event
This workshop was birthed from a passion for poetry, from a resistance and reclaiming of the black body and who it belongs to. An intensive, interactive 2 part multimedia poetry work series, title inspired by Octavia Butler, exploring language about the black body. In a 3 hour 1 day poetry workshop, we will look at how black writers’ classic and contemporary work explore body agency, body image, black bodies in media, and body positivity with writing prompts, activities, and more. This workshop open to lovers of language and poetry. We will unlearn body shame, inspiring creativity, and finding voice, through guided conversations Facilitated by Chantel Massey surrounding how black writers use language in their literary works to reclaim, expose,and address shame, and more. We will explore and reclaim voice through a safe space, poetry, and more!
